Covenants decide most of it
In a planned community this size, neighborhood covenants and architectural review shape fences more than any city code: what material, how tall, what color, and often whether a solid fence is allowed at all where a yard backs onto a lake, fairway or common area. Submit plans and get written approval before a contractor orders material.
Which government?
Hampton Cove shares land with Huntsville, Owens Cross Roads, Gurley and unincorporated Big Cove, and shares the 35763 ZIP code with Owens Cross Roads. City services come from Huntsville and the schools are Huntsville City Schools. Inside Huntsville city limits, no fence permit is required. If your parcel is outside the city, Madison County rules apply. Confirm before work starts.
View fences, lakes and golf
- Black [aluminum](/aluminum-fence) is the usual answer behind homes on the lakes and fairways: it marks the line and contains pets without blocking the view.
- [Pool fences](/pool-fence) need a 48-inch barrier with self-closing, self-latching gates that swing away from the pool.
- [Privacy fences](/privacy-fence) go where covenants allow them, typically between neighbors rather than facing open space.
- Golf ball impacts are a real consideration on fairway lots; ask how a vinyl panel or aluminum picket is replaced if hit.
Hillside lots
Hampton Cove sits in the foothills and valleys at the edge of the Cumberland Plateau, so many lots slope toward a lake or the Big Cove Creek Greenway. Racked aluminum or wood follows a slope; vinyl steps. On hillsides, ask how the contractor will handle rock in post holes and keep runoff from undermining posts.
Getting quotes
Send a request through the contact page with your neighborhood, fence type, footage and whether you already have HOA approval. We pass it to an independent fence contractor who works Hampton Cove. Alabama 811 needs notice at least two full working days before digging.
