Priceville is not Decatur
Priceville shares a border and a lot of road with Decatur, but it is a separate town. Decatur's detailed fence ordinance and fence permit apply only inside Decatur. We could not confirm Priceville's fence rules; call Town Hall before building. Properties outside both, in unincorporated Morgan County, follow county rules.
Because the line is easy to miss along SR 67, check which jurisdiction your parcel is in before a contractor assumes either set of rules.
Growth along I-65
Priceville was settled in the 1820s and named for the Price family, but stayed sparse until Interstate 65 arrived in the 1950s. Growth since has been steady, with newer subdivisions alongside older rural lots. Requests run from backyard privacy fences and vinyl in new neighborhoods to chain link and farm fence on larger parcels.
Near the refuge and the lake
Lots near the Wheeler refuge and the lake can sit low and wet in winter. Ground-contact-rated or steel posts, gravel at the base and a gap under solid fences where water moves across the yard all help. If deer are getting into a garden, taller fencing is the usual answer; check the town's height limit first.
Getting quotes
Send a request through the contact page with your street or subdivision, fence type and footage. We pass it to an independent fence contractor who works the Decatur and Priceville area. Alabama 811 needs notice at least two full working days before digging.
